Whoda thunk it? Long time since our faithful group of QRP portable ham radio ops have gathered in Sylvan Lake Park to enjoy our hobby and solve all the problems of the world over breakfast at Cracker Barrel in Sanford!
Once again because of the age of most of our participants falls into the range of the most vulnerable to COVID-19 infection, we’ll not formally meet. HOWEVER…our normal pattern is…
Breakfast at 0730 AM at Cracker Barrel Sanford, FL and 0900 setup in Picnic Area A of Sylvan Lake Park should you choose to be outside and play radio. There is room to spread out and operate if you wish. Personally, I’m not going out until I’m vaccinated and less vulnerable.
Ron WD8PNL has been faithful to show up at Cracker Barrel and I expect he may be making the drive over from Melbourne again this month. He’s an expert tech and has an Elmer heart to help others and I imagine he’d enjoy connecting with like-minded hams.
Wishing you all the best Christmas and New Years! Get out in your backyard or nearby park and put some RF into the air. BCNU es 72, Kelly K4UPG for the CFL QRP Group
We’re still in COVID territory and cases of infection have increased dramatically. You are free to operate in the park and follow good social distancing and mask guidance. Many of us have pre-existing health issues and have chosen not to expose ourselves.

This is the Saturday following Thanksgiving. I will attempt to operate from my backyard or the seldom used lakeside park in our community. Hope conditions allow us to connect on the air. I’ve gotten rusty using my CW without our normal outing schedule.

I hate to say this, but the COVID-19 Count has begun spiking upwards again since we entered into October. For that reason, most of our members are choosing to stay home at this time.
Anyone that is interested in playing ham radio in the park is welcome to gather 0730 EDT at the Cracker Barrel in Sanford. Look for ham ops hats, shirts, etc. and join the group. If you have new toys that you’ve built, bought or haven’t shown off for a time, you’re welcome to do that during the breakfast chat time.
Normally we are setting up in Sylvan Lake Park at about 0900 EDT in the lakeside Picnic Area A. If that area is closed or reserved check the other two areas and watch for license tags and antennas on cars in the parking area. It is a very nice no RF noise area for QRP portable ops.
Social distancing, masks and good QSO’s to all that want to play radio out in the woods.
