Come on out and join the fun! This is a great warm up for the upcoming FLIGHT OF THE BUMBLEBEES QRP Contest. Test a new antenna, see what others are building, running and making contacts with simple gear. We enjoy sharing our experience with portable ops and if you don’t bring gear but have a license, we’ll share the key or mic to help you get on the air.
Sylvan Lake Park is a very quiet RF location with room to spread out and bring family for a pleasant walk near the lake. Watch for deer and other wildlife too.
This is the time of year when we can really enjoy the spring weather! The bands are waking up and at times are open for some DX action. Dust off your gear and come play radio in the park. Although Sylvan Lake Park is not part of POTA, you make contacts with other POTA and SOTA stations if that is something you want to do. Sylvan Lake Park is RF quiet Higher HF bands are experiencing good conditions at times so it is possible to try out those WARC and other frequencies and modes you haven’t experienced.
Normally we operate until noon, but feel free to stay longer if you’re having fun!
QRP or max 15 watts requested to avoid rig damage due to proximity to other stations
Come learn from one another and enjoy the outdoors
We welcome you to come learn how QRP portable works! Our group enjoys helping new ops and others that are interested in the joy of ham radio in the great outdoors! Bring a copy of your license if you want to operate but don’t have gear. We can share a seat at the controls!
