Saturday July 13, 2013 Outing Plus July Contests for QRP Ops

Ready to celebrate the 4th of July?  What better way than getting out and about and operating QRP portable?

Summer is QRP Contest time and July is full of good events! Start off with the MI QRP 4th of July Contest to warm up…  If you cannot make it on the 4th, the QRP ARCI has its Summer Homebrew Sprint July 7th 2000-2359UTC.  This one gives bonus points for using your homebrew or personally built kits to make contacts.

Our next outing will be Saturday July 13th at Sylvan Lake Park, Sanford, FL. Join us for an early breakfast at 0730 EDT at the Cracker Barrel Sanford. We have a good time showing off our latest handiwork, bragging and sharing the latest DX that has been worked. At 0900 EDT we are busy setting up at the park. Normally we are in Picnic Area A by the lake, but if they are reserved check out Area B, C or D and watch for our antennas. This date is also a good one for CW ops as the Straight Key Century Club Weekend Sprintathon.

What are you building?

There is a new contest the following weekend. One of my fellow Polar Bear QRP ops, Rem K6BBQ,  put this one together for us and you may have seen some of his creative YouTube videos of his portable activities. So mark your calendars for Scorch Your Butts Off  is scheduled for Sunday July 14, 2013 from 1600-2000 UTC. This one is great for FL QRP Ops as we get multipliers for temperature and humidity!

One of my personal favorite QRP Outings is Flight of the Bumblebees (FOBB) and I’ve got my BB number (23) and am ready to go! This one is the last Sunday of July so this year it is the 28th of July and local time is 1 – 5 PM EDT. Don’t miss this one either!

72,

Kelly K4UPG for the Group!
